La Jolla Half Marathon 2008

Matt and I successfully completed our first half marathon! The La Jolla Half is the hardest half marathon course in San Diego. It is a beautiful run along the water and through a national park. The toughest hill is a 450 ft climb starting at mile five! My childhood friend, Christina Kirby, runs several half marathons a year and encouraged me to try one with her. She hadn't run this one before, so we decided to do it together. After I started training, Matt decided to join in as my coach and encourager. The weather turned hot the day of the race, so we ran it in 90 degree weather. This was a huge challenge, because we had only run in the heat one other time. The hills were brutal and the water stops were few! Though I am proud to have completed this race, it was much more challenging than I had anticipated. Matt stuck with me and we completed it with a decent time. Christina beat us by about 10 minutes... you go girl! I would like to try a flatter course next time and hopefully see a vast improvement in my time! We took the pictures above just before the race... right after I locked Matt's keys in the truck! The pictures from the race and after are below.

April ... what a month!
I hardly know where to begin with this post. April was a really hectic month! We had sick kids for three weeks, two rounds of out of town guests, and a half marathon!
The week after Casey and Carolyn left, we took the boys to the doctor and found out that they both had "a touch of pneumonia." We started them on antibiotics and after their fevers were gone, our friends from Jacksonville came to stay for a week. While they were here, Zach had an allergic reaction to the antibiotic and broke out in red bumps from head to toe. Our doctor thought it was an allergic reaction, but also thought it had a lot of similarities to measles (a strain of measles that is resistant to the vaccine has been going around our area). So we were sent to a specialist, who assured us it was not measles... thankfully! Having sick kids for so long is much more exhausting than I imagined. We aren't used to getting up in the middle of the night anymore.

Getting new pajamas is always fun... especially when you are sick!

While our friends were in town, we went to the Wild Animal Park.
We all had a great time... especially the kids!

Then poor little Zach had his allergic reaction. The pictures don't even begin to show how bad he looked! Even though he wasn't contagious, we were afraid to take him anywhere, because he looked like he was really sick.

We took Madison to the Ferry Landing and the Farmer's Market... two of our favorite places!

Andy and Madison went to a Padres game with the Dads. Zach was sweet enough to let Madison borrow his baseball sweatshirt, although he was highly offended that he wasn't going with them.

We squeezed in a trip to Legoland at the end of the month.
Of course Thomas was Andy's and Zach's favorite.

This one is for Uncle Nathan - may the force be with you.

We added a few extra "family members" during our visit!

What do you think of Matt's new wife?

Our landlord finally had our gates installed, so our yard is a safe place for the boys to play. And we got new rain boots. We are ready to face "May Gray" and "June Gloom" the two most beautiful months of the year in Coronado! Ha, Ha!
